Indiana Helps Recycling Companies By Giving Grants

The State of Indiana will help recycling companies by releasing a large chunk of grant money to help businesses that do recycling. The Recycling Market Development Program in Indiana will give out almost $500,000 to help many companies buy materials and equipment for recycling projects at businesses that will reduce solid waste disposal. It will also increase Indiana’s ability to begin to more effectively use recycled materials, and products made from recycled materials.

The money used for these grants come from a per-ton fee on solid waste trash collected at Indiana landfills.

Thomas Easterly, theĀ Indiana Environmental Management Commissioner says that providing the cash grants to recycling businesses makes a lot of sense for both the environment and the economy, and wants recycling to ramp up.

Businesses that want to participate have until June 11 to apply for the grants. This program will fund the recycling equipment grants beginning in August 2012. The amounts of the grants will range from $25,000 to $200,000 with a required 50 percent match from the recycling companies.
