Ban on Recyclables in Garbage

Effective January 1, 2005 the City of Seattle began prohibiting disposal of certain recyclable materials in commercial, and self-haul garbage. This is per City Ordinance #121372. Seattle recycling rates have declined since 1996 and the city decided to try to reverse the trend, and save the city and it’s residents millions. Recycling is cheaper than landfill waste.
